HC Deb 25 April 1917 vol 92 c2365
10. Mr. MALLALIEU

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether it is contemplated by the Government to appoint as military representatives on local tribunals barristers at a salary of £250 per annum with 15s. per day as expenses; and has the opinion of the local tribunals been taken on this proposed change?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Macpherson)

The answer is in the negative. A small number of barristers and solicitors over military age or unfit for general service have been appointed to commissions as they are required for special duties as military representatives. The appointment of these officers does not, however, affect the position or status of the civilian military representatives who are performing public duties in a patriotic spirit worthy of all praise.
