HC Deb 25 April 1917 vol 92 c2384
58. Mr. A. WILLIAMS

asked whether His Majesty's Government are prepared to suspend the use of malt and grain and other foodstuffs for the making of beer and potable spirits, and for other non essential purposes, until the food supplies of the country are made safe and sufficient?

Captain BATHURST

I can only repeat my statement made on Monday that the Government have not yet come to the conclusion that such a step is necessary or practicable.
