HC Deb 24 April 1917 vol 92 c2215
26. Major NEWMAN

asked the Secretary to the Board of Trade whether, owing to the increasing shortage of paper, the Board of Trade are impressed with the care that should be exercised as to the classes of papers and periodicals which should be permitted to be printed; and whether, in the event of the Board itself or the Paper Commission being unable to decide as to what newspapers and periodicals should or should not be permitted to continue publication, a suitable committee of experts will be formed from among the Newspaper Society to deal with the matter?

Mr. ROBERTS

I do not think that this suggestion is practicable.

Mr. PRINGLE

Cannot betting news and advertisements be suppressed?

Mr. ROBERTS

It is not for my Department to decide.
