HC Deb 24 April 1917 vol 92 c2194
2. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he will cause instructions to be issued for the publication of the evidence taken at the courts-martial of the Irish prisoners?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Macpherson)

I am afraid I have nothing to add to the answers which I have already given to the hon. Member on this subject.

56. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware of the demand for the release of the Irish prisoners; if he is aware that over 100 public boards in Ireland have passed resolutions for their better treatment and release; if he is aware that resolutions have been passed in America and Australia demanding similar treatment for the Irish prisoners as was granted to De Wet and the other South African rebels; if he is aware that their release would strengthen the American Government in their future actions in connection with the War; and if, pending their release the Irish prisoners will be immediately treated as political prisoners, including the Countess Marckivicz?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Duke)

My right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. I am not able to add anything to the statements made on the 22nd of March, the 4th of April, and yesterday, in answer to questions of the hon. Members for South Down, Salford, and North Westmeath.
