HC Deb 24 April 1917 vol 92 c2225
47. Major NEWMAN

asked whether any supervision is exercised by any Government Department over the activities of the Emergency Committee for helping alien enemies; whether he is aware that in 1916 over £17,000 was subscribed, and that among the subscribers were several Members of both Houses of Parliament; and has the committee of management of the funds collected the sanction of the Government?

Mr. BRACE

My right hon. Friend has asked me to answer this question. The committee in question is one established by the Society of Friends, but the Government is not in any way responsible for its activities.
