HC Deb 24 April 1917 vol 92 c2200
9. Sir JOHN JARDINE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War, whether the War Office will consider the expediency of advising His Majesty to make distinctions of divisions in the Distinguished Service Order, analogous to the military and civil divisions in the Order of the Bath, so that deeds of valour on the field of battle or in deadly peril elsewhere in a campaign and other distinguished military services may, at the pleasure of the Sovereign, each receive appropriate reward?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The following Orders or decorations exist and are used to furnish the appropriate distinctive re-wards for deeds of valour and other distinguished military services, namely: Victoria Cross, Distinguished Service Order, Military Cross, Distinguished Conduct Medal and Military Medal. There is, therefore, no need to contemplate divisions of the Distinguished Service Order for such a purpose.
