§ 8. Mr. FLAVINasked whether the recent invitation, October, 1916, to third writers entered for the period of the War to transfer to continuous service was readily responded to; and, if not, what theory is advanced to account for the lack of applicants?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAThe number of third writers entered for the War who have applied to transfer to continuous service is not large. I assume that the reason is that many men who have been patriotically willing to enter in the present emergency are not desirous of continuing service after the War.
