HC Deb 04 April 1917 vol 92 c1270
62. Mr. GILBERT

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that the retail prices of meat were considerably advanced last week in London, and it was stated by retailers that prices would still further advance owing to the Government stopping meat being released from told storage stores; and, if so, will he state why such stoppages have been made?

Captain BATHURST

I understand that the retail prices of meat have been advanced recently, but I have no information as to the reason given for this advance. As regards the last part of the question, I would refer the hon Member to the Board of Trade, by whom the importation of the refrigerated meat is controlled.
