HC Deb 04 April 1917 vol 92 cc1284-5
85. Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Secretary for Scotland if he can do anything to secure the observance of the Military Service Act by the Dundee Local Tribunal in the case of John Drummond, of 48, Wellgate, Dundee, the only support of his aged parents and younger members of the family, seeing that this man has five brothers who joined the Army voluntarily, one of whom has been killed, one wounded, and another invalided, the last two being now back on active service, and in view of the further circumstance that these five brothers volunteered on the understanding that John Drummond was to remain at home to support his parents?

The SECRETARY for SCOTLAND (Mr. Munro)

The provisions of the Acts give an opportunity for a hearing by the Appeal Tribunal as well as by the local tribunal, and if, as I understand the question, the local tribunal has given an adverse decision upon the application, I think the proper course is to appeal to the Appeal Tribunal to whom the facts can be submitted.
