HC Deb 18 October 1916 vol 86 c525
10. Mr. CHANCELLOR

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the allowance in lieu of rations at home stations has been reduced from 1s. 9d. to 1s. 7d. per day; if so, whether such reduction is due to a reduction in the scale of rations; whether any further reduction in scale is contemplated; or whether, in view of the high prices which have reduced the purchasing power of the allowance, it will be restored to the original amount or adjusted to meet the increased cost?

Mr. FORSTER

The answer to the first two parts of the question is in the affirmative. The possibility of a slight further reduction in scale is under consideration. The effect of high prices has not been lost sight of, but no increase in the allowance it at present considered necessary.
