HC Deb 17 October 1916 vol 86 c380
115. Mr. FIELD

asked the President of the Board of Trade what has been done in the matter of withdrawing or modifying the restrictions on casings; whether a consignment of casings was cleared in Liverpool a few weeks ago and, if so, could similar privileges be given at London, Bristol, and Glasgow; and whether his Department has also been approached in the matter of withdrawing or modifying the restriction imposed upon the importation of skewers?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

Although applications have been received for licences to permit the importation of casings only two small consignments have been specifically licensed by the Board of Trade. The importation to which my hon. Friend refers was not one of these and was doubtless allowed under the general licence relating to goods en route at the time of the prohibition. Applications for licences to import skewers have also been received, but only three have been granted.
