HC Deb 12 October 1916 vol 86 cc168-9
16. Sir J. HARMOOD-BANNER

asked if Italy has prohibited all her subjects in neutral countries from having any commercial relations with all alien enemies in all neutral countries; and, if so, will the British Government adopt similar measures to prevent all British subjects from having any commercial relations with all alien enemies or alien associations in all neutral countries, and thus render the Trading With the Enemy (Extension) Act more drastic than it is at present?

Lord R. CECIL

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part of the question, in view of the difficulty of enforcing any far-reaching measure of the nature indicated, His Majesty's Government do not at present see their way to go any further than they have already done in the Trading With the Enemy (Extension of Powers) Act.
