Colonel Lord HENRY CAVENDISH-BENTINCKasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that in May last, in Northern Nigeria, an accident occurred involving the death of one native and the total disablement of another at the Kaduna mines, and that the verdict at the inquest was one of culpable negligence on the part of a European named James Park; and whether he is aware that the Council of the Chamber of Mines intervened and sent a telegram attacking the judicial authorities to the acting lieutenant-governor, at the same time circulating 1563 publicly copies of the telegram; and, seeing that the acting lieutenant-governor removed the judicial officer and ordered the issue of a nolle prosequi, what steps, if any, does he propose to take in this case of interference with the course of justice?
