HC Deb 21 November 1916 vol 87 c1218
105. Mr. RENDALL

asked the Home Secretary whether he can give any particulars of the work done by the Board of Control in converting asylums for the reception and treatment of soldiers who have been wounded or otherwise incapacitated?

Mr. SAMUEL

The Board of Control have been able to render valuable assistance to the military authorities in providing accommodation for wounded soldiers. Thirteen asylums and a part of a fourteenth, containing over 15,000 lunatic patients, who were transferred to other asylums, have been adapted for hospital purposes and equipped with modern surgical and medical appliances. About 23,600 beds were thus provided, and up to the present date they have been used for over 100,000 sick and wounded soldiers.
