HC Deb 21 November 1916 vol 87 cc1197-8
28. Sir H. DALZIEL

asked the Secretary of State for War whether Hans Fischer, late of the Northern Nigeria Colonial Civil Service, is now a captain in the Intelligence Department of the War Office; if so, whether he is satisfied that the strictest investigations were made in regard to the captain's nationality before attaching him to the Intelligence Department; and whether the War Office were entirely satisfied with Hans Fischer's political antecedents before his appointment?

Mr. FORSTER

The gentleman mentioned is of British nationality, although a Swiss by birth, and he has been employed in the manner stated in the first part of the question. Captain Fischer's nationality was, of course, the subject of careful inquiry before he was appointed.
