HC Deb 21 November 1916 vol 87 cc1216-7
103. Mr. DILLON

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been drawn to the resolution passed by the Council for Agriculture in Dublin, protesting against the imposition of Greenwich time on Ireland; and whether he will cause the question of applying Greenwich time permanently to Ireland to be referred for inquiry to the Committee no\w inquiring into the question of summer time?

Mr. SAMUEL

My attention had not been called to the resolution mentioned by the hon. Member. The question is one which has just been settled by Parliament; it is outside the scope of the Summer Time Committee.

Mr. DILLON

Has the right hon. Gentleman's attention been called to the fact that this matter was settled by surprise without giving the Irish people any opportunity of considering it at all?

Mr. SAMUEL

I cannot agree with that. The matter was before the House some weeks before it was finally decided.

Mr. T. M. HEALY

Has the right hon. 'Gentleman's attention been called to the fact that the result of this change has been that the Great Southern and Western Railway have delayed one of their most important mail trains an hour? It does not matter anything about our inconvenience, of course.
