HC Deb 21 November 1916 vol 87 cc1211-2
74. Captain BATHURST

asked the Prime Minister whether, if it is the settled policy of His Majesty's Government that in the interest of national safety considerably more human food should after the War be grown on the land of Great Britain than was grown before the War, he will, seeing that considerable doubt is expressed among farmers and landowners as to the unanimity of conviction among members of the Government on this subject, make a definite statement to the above effect, and so check the continuing tendency, especially in Wales, to lay down land to grass?

The PRIME MINISTER

The Government are in full sympathy with the policy stated in the first part of the question.
