HC Deb 16 November 1916 vol 87 cc950-1
14. Major NEWMAN

asked the Chief Secretary whether he has any reports from the police authorities as to illegal drilling by bodies of men, particularly in the neighbourhood of Cork City; and, if so, what action does he propose to take?

Mr. DUKE

I am not aware of any recent case of illegal drilling near Cork. The police keep proper observation for any such occurrence, and if any case should arise it will be dealt with as the facts may require.

Major NEWMAN

May I send the Chief Secretary a statement which I have received as to this?

Mr. DUKE

Certainly.

Mr. FLAVIN

Ought not the hon. and gallant Gentleman to have more respect for his own countrymen than to make false accusations against them?

Major NEWMAN

I have the statement in my pocket.
