HC Deb 16 November 1916 vol 87 cc980-1
92. Colonel GRETTON

asked the President of the Board of Trade if, in view of the number of German businesses remaining to be wound up, in addition to the ordinary work of the Department, he will consider the need of more close and energetic supervision of the controllers; and if he will appoint some competent and energetic person of experience to supervise the controllers and expedite the winding up of enemy businesses?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The controllers appointed to wind up enemy businesses are accountants of experience in the work of liquidation. They are in close touch with the Board of Trade, and I do not think the course suggested would expedite the completion of their work.

Colonel YATE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there is a general belief that these controllers are not winding up these businesses as expeditiously as they might do?
