§ 99. Mr. LUNDONasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has received letters from the clergymen of both denominations, as well as from the local magistrates and public men in Mitchelstown, county Cork, asking for the release of Dennis Hannigan; and, in view of the fact that this man's business is practically ruined, and also that he took no part whatever in the rebellion, will he grant his release immediately?
Mr. SAMUELI do not know of any Irish prisoner named Dennis Hannigan. If the hon. Member refers to James Hannigan of Mitchelstown, his case has been under consideration, but in the absence of any undertaking on his part of the character that is required I am not able at -the present time to authorise his release.
