HC Deb 15 November 1916 vol 87 cc772-3
34. Mr. LUNDON

asked the Secretary of State for War if he can give an estimate of the number of horses brought back from France since the beginning of the War; how were they disposed of, and whether any of them were sold in Ireland; and, if not, will it be done, so that farmers and others may get an opportunity of purchasing them?

Mr. FORSTER

Two hundred selected mares have been brought back from France and sold by auction in Great Britain. It is understood that the Irish Board of Agriculture objects to the sale in Ireland of animals returned from the seat of war in view of possible infection.
