HC Deb 31 May 1916 vol 82 cc2709-10
89. Mr. DEVLIN

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he is aware that it has been a custom in the Royal Barracks, Dublin, when the officers are paying soldiers, to stop small sums from each of them from time to time, without stating what the amount is for; whether, on the 26th instant, a sum of 1s. was stopped off the pay of some of the soldiers, the reason given being that it was required to make up a sum of £7 which a certain company owed to somebody in March last; whether he is aware that these deductions have an irritating effect upon the men; and whether he will have inquiries made into the matter?

Mr. FORSTER

If my hon. Friend refers me to more specific details, I will have inquiry made.
