HC Deb 31 May 1916 vol 82 cc2697-8
39. Mr. GRIFFITH

asked the Under-Secretary for War whether he is aware that private soldiers who are monoglot Welshmen have been, by order of the War Office, dispatched from centres in Wales to join units in England; and whether he will take immediate steps to prevent a recurrence of this policy and to retransfer to Welsh units the men already dispatched to England?

Mr. TENNANT

Great care has been exercised in maintaining the territorial connection of recruits raised in Wales. There is not enough information in my right hon. Friend's question to enable the War Office to trace the monoglots referred to, but if he can afford me specific information each case will be inquired into.
