HC Deb 31 May 1916 vol 82 c2727
18. Mr. OUTHWAITE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can state the total annual revenue raised from rates and taxes levied on Land Values in Australia?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The Commonwealth Land Tax assessment in 1912–13 was £1,459,962, and the State Land Taxes in 1913–14 produced £568,804. These are the latest figures in my possession.

Mr. OUTHWAITE

The answer only replies to one part of the question. I also asked what amount is raised by rates on Land Values?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I understood rates are covered, and that the question was put in that form.

Mr. OUTHWAITE

There are both rates and taxes levied on the Land Values, and your reply only applies to taxes.

19. Mr. OUTHWAITE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can state the rates of the Land Values Tax recently imposed by the Government of Queensland?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I cannot give full particulars of the Queensland Land Values Tax within the limits of an oral reply, but I have placed a copy of the Act in the Library of the House.
