HC Deb 31 May 1916 vol 82 cc2721-2
120. Sir ALBERT SPICER

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether, in view of the passing of the Military Service Bill and the consequent withdrawal of many married men from their present occupations, he will state the number of German bakers, both masters and journeymen, in the Metropolitan area who are still here and able to continue their work?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

Out of over 25,000 bakers in the Metropolitan Police district there are 125 German master bakers and 552 journeyman bakers, of whom ten and forty-six, respectively, are unable to continue their work.
