HC Deb 31 May 1916 vol 82 c2703
75. Mr. DUNDAS WHITE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been directed to the hardship caused to some poor widows whose sons were engineering apprentices and enlisted shortly before their apprenticeship expired, and before they had begun to receive substantial wages and to contribute to the expenses of the home as they would have been doing if they had postponed their enlistment by the fact that, as at the actual time of enlistment the sons were not contributing to the expense of the home, they are not entitled to the dependants' allowances which they would otherwise obtain; and whether he can see his way to promise some special provision for such cases?

Mr. FORSTER

I must refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for East Edinburgh on the 12th April.
