HC Deb 22 May 1916 vol 82 c1814
6. Sir WILLIAM BULL

asked the President of the Board of Trade why no provision is made in the Output of Beer (Restriction) Bill for proportionate supplies to free off-licence holders, beer dealers, military canteens, and clubs?

Mr. PRETYMAN

As regards military canteens the Bill has been drawn up in consultation with the War Office, who are satisfied with the provision made. A Clause has been inserted in the Bill to ensure reasonable supplies for "free" on-licence holders, but I am afraid that it is not possible to make special provision for the various other classes of "free" sellers of beer, who must be left to purchase as they are able in the open market.
