HC Deb 22 May 1916 vol 82 cc1804-5
47. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Prime Minister whether any person has ever been punished or even brought before a magistrate for the landing of German arms at Larne and their distribution throughout Ulster in 1914, for the forcible occupation by Ulster Volunteers of the Larne-Belfast Railway, including the York Street Station at Belfast and the telegraph wires, and for compelling the police and coastguards to keep within their respective barracks during those operations; whether any legal proceedings are contemplated, in accordance with the assurance he gave the House on the 27th April, 1914, against the persons who advised, led, or financed those operations; and, if not, will he say why they are not contemplated?

The PRIME MINISTER

I did not give any undertaking that legal proceedings would be taken in this matter, which cannot now be reopened.

Mr. GINNELL

Does the right hon. Gentleman forget his explicit statement in this House that the matter will be fully and thoroughly investigated?
