HC Deb 22 May 1916 vol 82 c1787
8. Sir CHARLES HENRY

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty how many of the gentlemen of military age holding temporary commissions employed in the various departments and branches of the Admiralty who have had no naval experience are definitely known to have been medically rejected for military service; if he will state the aggregate and monthly remuneration of these gentlemen holding temporary commissions employed in the various departments and branches of the Admiralty who have not been medically rejected; and whether men not of military age could be found so as to liberate these gentlemen of military age fit for active service?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

As regards the first part of the question, the number of the gentlemen therein referred to who are definitely known to have been medically rejected for, or invalided from, military service, is eight. The answer to the second part of the question is £1,930 approximately. As regards the last part, I can only repeat that the importance of releasing any of our employés that are fit and can be spared for active service is constantly kept in view.
