64. Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Under-secretary of State for War if he will make immediate inquiry into the arrest of Private Dugdale, No. 26,752, 10th East Lancashires, stationed at Morgrat Camp, Wareham, who was discharged from the Army on payment in 1898, who enlisted in the King's Royal Battalion for the South African War, where he served for two years and four months with the Colours and afterwards eight years in the Reserve, and whose time expired on 6th January, 1912,but who, notwithstanding that he was excepted under the Military Service Act, was arrested under that Act on 31st March last, tried and fined 40s., and handed over to the military authorities; and will he order that the fine be refunded and the man released, and that suitable action be taken with those responsible for the arrest?
