HC Deb 18 May 1916 vol 82 c1649
67. Mr. BOYTON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he is aware of the difficulty experienced by consulting physicians and operating or consulting surgeons who devote the whole or part of their time to work at the various military hospitals in getting chauffeurs of non-military age to drive their motor cars; and if the War Office would find soldiers to drive the cars of such physicians and surgeons as may apply and be approved?

Mr. TENNANT

It would not be possible to release soldiers for this work. I am told that women drivers have been employed in certain cases, and I suggest this is the solution of the difficulty. At the same time, may I express my warm appreciation of the valuable assistance which is being given by consulting physicians and operating or consulting surgeons at the various military hospitals.
