Mr. HANCOCKasked the Undersecretary of State for War whether his attention has been drawn to the drafting of men of provisional battalions, Territorial Force, to other than their county units, in contravention of Army Council Instruction 301 of 6th February, 1916; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take in the matter?
§ Mr. TENNANTIf my hon. Friend will permit me to say so, I would point out that I have answered at least twenty questions on this subject. I may, I think, therefore say that my attention has been drawn to it. Men from provisional battalions have been attached to units other than those which they originally joined. In these cases the Army Council exercised their power of attachment, which was necessitated by the requirements of the Service. As regards the latter part of the question, my hon. Friend will be aware of the provisions of the Military Service Bill now before the House, which bears on this, point.
