HC Deb 11 May 1916 vol 82 cc885-6
51. Sir A. MARKHAM

asked the Prime Minister the total number of men of the Sherwood Foresters who have been killed and wounded during the recent fighting in Ireland?

Mr. TENNANT

My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister has asked me to answer this question. It is not usual to state the numbers of casualties of a particular regiment on particular occasions, and if I now make an exception to the rule hon. Members will, I am sure, not treat it as a precedent. Two battalions of the Sherwood Foresters were involved, and the casualties were as follows:

Officers—
Killed 6
Wounded 15
Other ranks—
Killed 24
Wounded 142
There are also some men missing, the number of whom is not quite certain, but is probably nine.
