Mr. CATHCART WASONasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that the increased taxation of motor cars used by doctors presses on the medical profession, and that the public interests suffer; and if he will take into consideration the desirability of making a further concession, with especial consideration to the increased price of petrol and the difficulty of obtaining it?
§ Mr. McKENNAAs I have already stated, I am considering all questions relevant to the proposed increase of Motor-Car Licence Duty; but I must add that it would be difficult to justify any change which would give members of the medical profession—who only pay half duty—a greater proportional preference over other users of motor cars.
