Mr. CROOKSasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that non-commissioned officers in the Army Service Corps who served on the Gallipoli Peninsula and are now back in Egypt have been reduced to their original rank and original pay, which also adversely affects the separation allowance to their families; and whether he will make inquiries into the matter and see whether these men can be permitted to retain the rank to which they were promoted?
§ Mr. TENNANTI assume my right hon. Friend must be referring to acting rank; if so, I would take the liberty of referring him to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for the Altrincham Division on the 8th of May, and also to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for the Houghton-le-Spring Division on the 2nd September. No cases of the reduction of rank have come to the knowledge of the War Office, and I imagine that where rank has been given up it has been nothing but acting rank.
