HC Deb 04 May 1916 vol 82 cc111-2
23. Mr. JOWETT

asked the President of the Local Government Board if the West Central Appeal Tribunal of the West Biding of Yorkshire refuses to inform appellants of the grounds on which local tribunals object to their appeal claims being granted, although in an adjoining district the East Central Appeal Tribunal of the same County Riding gives this information to appellants; if he is aware that the clerk to the West Central Appeal Tribunal has stated that it is illegal to grant absolute exemptions under the Military Service Act, 1916, and therefore no absolute exemptions would be given by the West Central Appeal Tribunal; if he is aware that the West Central Appeal Tribunal and the local tribunals in the West Central area persist in allowing the military representatives to be present during the consideration of appeals after applicants have been compelled to withdraw; and whether he will take steps to correct the irregularities of the above-mentioned tribunals?

Mr. LONG

I am making inquiries respecting matters to which the hon. Member refers.
