HC Deb 04 May 1916 vol 82 c127
60. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to protests regarding the terms on which men from South Africa are being enlisted and trained; and whether he is satisfied that the best use is being made of those men?

Mr. TENNANT

The men in question would have been enlisted in South Africa, and any protests regarding the terms on which they have been enlisted would not be a matter for the War Office, to deal with. As a matter of fact, I am unaware of any protest on either of the two points mentioned by my hon. Friend. The men are being trained at Borden under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief at Aldershot, and I am satisfied that their training is being properly conducted.
