HC Deb 04 May 1916 vol 82 cc108-9
18. Mr. HOUSTON

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether it is intended to requisition a large number of British steamers to carry coal from United States ports to River Plate ports at 85s. per ton on the weight of cargo; and whether he can state the current rates of freights from Bristol Channel ports to River Plate ports and the approximate price of coal at United States ports and Bristol Channel ports, respectively?

Dr. MACNAMARA

Proposals are under discussion designed to supply River Plate ports with coal from the United States, and, at the same time, obviate the making of ballast voyages in British ships.
