HC Deb 03 May 1916 vol 82 c28
44. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to the fact that in the two recent Secret Sessions of Parliament no opportunity was afforded of receiving replies to questions which Ministers in ordinary circumstances request Members to withdraw from the Order Paper; and whether he can see his way to hold a Secret Session confined entirely to replying to questions which he considers ought not to be answered in open Session?

The PRIME MINISTER

No, Sir. I do not think this suggestion is practicable.

Mr. HOGGE

Can the right hon. Gentleman suggest a way in which Members representing constituencies can get the information?

The PRIME MINISTER

I should say in the ordinary way, by putting down questions.

Mr. HOGGE

But how can an hon. Member get a Parliamentary reply to a question which he is asked to withdraw?

The PRIME MINISTER

I cannot answer that.
