§ 22. Mr. SNOWDENasked the First Commissioner of Works if the question of the payment of a war bonus to the men employed in the Royal parks has yet been settled; and, if so, has it been decided to pay these men the same wage's as the men employed by the London County Council and the Zoological Gardens?
Mr. HARCOURTHis Majesty's Government, having given careful consideration to the question of granting a war bonus to the subordinate staff in the Civil establishments, decided, at the end of last year, that a case had not been made out for throwing such a heavy additional burden as would be involved thereby upon the taxpayer at the present time. Having regard to this decision, the Treasury, to whom I submitted the case of the employés in the Royal parks, have expressed their regret that they are unable to vary it in favour of this particular class.
