HC Deb 16 March 1916 vol 80 c2253
61. Mr. HOUSTON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can state the freights paid on coal for the use of British-owned railways in Argentina from Cardiff to Buenos Ayres, and from Virginia, United States of America, to Buenos Ayres, respectively?

Mr. PRETYMAN

The latest official information of fixtures for coal freights to the Argentine which I have is 55s. from Cardiff to the Plate, and 102s. 6d. from Virginia, United States of America, to the Plate. I am unable to say whether this coal was for the use of British-owned railways.

Mr. HOUSTON

Can my hon. Friend give me the date at which he obtained the information?

Mr. PRETYMAN

Not without notice. I think they are pretty recent.

Mr. HOUSTON

Yesterday they rose 5s.
