HC Deb 16 March 1916 vol 80 c2264
91. Mr. CHANCELLOR

asked if a number of men who are not themselves suffering from cerebro-spinal meningitis are being confined in Fulham Military Hospital as carriers of that disease; and whether there is any proof of these carriers having actually communicated it to other persons?

Mr. TENNANT

Fifteen soldiers are now segregated at the Fulham Military Hospital as carriers of cerebro-spinal fever infection. Two soldiers segregated as carriers have developed the disease in acute form. The Army Council are advised that these carriers should be segregated, not because they have actually communicated the disease to other persons, but in order to prevent them from doing so.

Mr. CHANCELLOR

Is there a single case in which the disease has been communicated by a carrier?

Mr. TENNANT

I think that there are. If my hon. Friend will give notice I will let him know.
