HC Deb 14 March 1916 vol 80 c1890
66. Mr. ASTOR

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office if he will state, either approximately or exactly, the total sum paid for any recent period in the way of pensions to officers who were on the retired list before August, 1914, and who are now receiving pay for active service in addition to their pensions?

Mr. FORSTER

I am afraid I have nothing to add to the answer I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Barnsley on the 24th February.

67. Mr. ASTOR

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office if he will state, either approximately or exactly, the amount of money returned to the Exchequer by officers now entitled to be paid twice, i.e., for active service and also as pensions?

Mr. FORSTER

The only case of formal surrender of retired pay that has come to my knowledge is at the rate of £180 a year.
