HC Deb 14 March 1916 vol 80 cc1895-6
77. Mr. BOLAND

asked the Secretary for Scotland how many prosecutions have been undertaken by the sanitary department of Glasgow during the past three months against traders in that city who endeavour to pass off margarine as Irish butter; and whether active co-operation with the Irish Department of Agriculture has been effected in the matter?

The SECRETARY for SCOTLAND (Mr. McKinnon Wood)

The total number of prosecutions in Glasgow during the three months ending 29th February for selling margarine as butter was eleven, two of which were for selling margarine as Irish butter. All the prosecutions were successful. The Glasgow sanitary authorities and the local Government Board for Scotland have been in communication with the Irish Board of Agriculture in the matter.
