HC Deb 14 March 1916 vol 80 c1894
90. Mr. BUTCHER

asked how many of the staff ordinarily employed at the British Museum and the Natural History Museum are now engaged on other work, and whether the salaries or remuneration of any of the staff so engaged are or is being paid by the trustees of the British Museum or charged against the funds under their control?

Mr. MONTAGU

One hundred and ten members of the staff of the British Museum (Bloomsbury) and fifty-three members of the staff of the British Museum (Natural History) are serving with His Majesty's naval or military forces. These men receive pay from the Navy or Army Votes, and the difference between such pay and their civil pay is made up from the Vote for the British Museum. In addition, forty-two members of the staff of the British Museum (Bloomsbury) and one member of the staff of the British Museum, (Natural History) have been lent for service with other Government Departments. These men receive their pay from the Vote for the British Museum.
