33. Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTTasked the Secretary to the Treasury whether any examinations will be held this year for junior appointments in the Civil Service; and whether any changes have been made or are proposed in the mode of making such appointments during the War?
§ The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Montagu)It is not intended to hold an examination this year, or during the War, for junior appointments in the Civil Service. Vacant appointments which cannot be left unfilled will ordinarily be provided for by the engagement of temporary male clerks ineligible for service with the forces or of temporary women clerks.
§ Mr. MONTAGUIf they are male clerks they are ineligible for military service in some form or other.
