Mr. MALCOLMasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that within the last fortnight sixteen Royal Naval Reserve prisoners of war, interned at Groeningen Camp, were sentenced to fourteen days' solitary confinement in cells and to other punishments for a trivial offence committed and confessed by one of them; and, if so, what steps have been taken by His Majesty's Government to secure the cancellation or reduction of these sentences?
§ Lord R. CECILI have received information to this effect from my hon. Friend. 1330 I have addressed an inquiry on the subject to His Majesty's Minister at The Hague, but have not yet learnt the result.
§ Mr. MALCOLMIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that this sentence was passed a fortnight ago and that information reached the Foreign Office some ten days ago?
