§ 25. Mr. RADFORDasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether clerks 1337 in holy orders who have attested under Lord Derby's scheme are liable to be called up for military service; and, if not, whether he will issue an authoritative statement to that effect?
§ Mr. TENNANTYes, Sir, a clerk in holy orders who has voluntarily come forward and has been attested under the Group system for general service is liable to be called up in the same way as any other man, but my hon. Friend will be aware that clergymen were not canvassed under Lord Derby's scheme, and that they are not subject to the provisions of the Military Service Act.
