HC Deb 29 June 1916 vol 83 cc1175-6

Whereupon Mr. SPEAKER, pursuant to the Order of the House of the 22nd February, proposed the Question, "That this House do now adjourn."

Mr. KING

May I ask the Patronage Secretary whether it is intended to take the Gas (Standard of Calorific Power) Bill next week? The Prime Minister made no announcement about it, so I suppose that we may conclude that it will not be taken at all next week.

Mr. GULLAND (Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury)

The hon. Member is wrong. The Prime Minister did announce that the Second Reading of this Bill would be taken on Tuesday. I think he described it as the Gas Bill; perhaps the hon. Member did not recognise it under the abbreviated title.

Mr. PRINGLE

Are we to understand that if the Scottish Estimates are taken next week, the Report of the most important Department of the administration of Scotland, namely, the Board of Agriculture, will be in the hands of the Scottish Members?

Mr. GULLAND

I do not think there has been any statement that the Scottish Estimates would be taken next week, or that it has been settled in any way. Certainly before the Scottish Estimates are taken, I shall convey to the Secretary for Scotland the wish of the House that that Report should be in the hands of Members.

Mr. WHITEHOUSE

I presume my hon. Friend the Patronage, Secretary to the Treasury is not able to tell the House now whether it has yet been possible to make any arrangements for an early discussion on the subject of the Prime Minister's statement on the question of the treatment of conscientious objectors?

Mr. GULLAND

No, Sir, I cannot.

Adjourned accordingly at Nine minutes afte-Eleven o'clock till Monday next, 3rd July, pursuant to the Order of the House of the 22nd February last.
