HC Deb 20 June 1916 vol 83 c18
9. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Under-Secretary for War whether the military authorities have yet prevented in this country the holding of a social entertainment by the National Union of Clerks, or any other non-political body, for the raising of funds for the body; whether he is aware that the Tralee branch of the British association named has been prevented from doing this; and, if the prevention is not arbitrary, will he state the rule or practice in differentiating between the branches of the same organisation in the two countries?

Mr. TENNANT

This allegation is incorrect. The Tralee branch of this association was refused the use of the Tralee skating rink because this building had been used for improper purposes by disaffected persons, and the application for its use was made by a member of the association well known to be disaffected.

Mr. GINNELL

May I ask whether any improper use is alleged against the applicants in this case, and, if not, why are they refused the use?

Mr. TENNANT

Yes, Sir, improper use was and is alleged.
